INTEGRATIVE MODALITIES
What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a powerful and truly holistic healthcare modality that combines cutting-edge scientific medical knowledge with the wisdom of various natural health and healing modalities. The term “Naturopathy” was coined in 1895 in the USA, however the first advocate in the Western world for Naturopathy is said to be Hippocrates, a Greek physician born 460 BC.
Naturopaths today are formally trained in biochemistry, anatomy & physiology, nutrition, herbal medicine, homoeopathy, massage, and iridology. They may also utilise a wide variety of techniques including kinesiology, psychology and counselling, blood analysis, hair analysis, stool and urine analysis as part of their investigation and treatment protocols.
Naturopathic Medicine strongly focuses on treating the whole person with the aim of rebalancing health from within while emphasising holistic disease prevention through natural therapeutic methods.
The Naturopathic principles are:
- First, do no harm.
- The healing power of nature.
- Find and treat the cause wherever possible, not only the symptoms.
- Doctor and teacher.
- Treat the whole person.
- Education and prevention
What is Essence Therapy?
The sister science to Homeopathy. Essence Therapy is a holistic vibrational healing modality that works with the energetic imprint of flowers, plants, crystals, minerals, and natural substances to support emotional, mental, and spiritual well being. Often referred to as the “sister science” to Homeopathy, Essence Therapy shares a similar philosophy in recognising that the body is not only physical, but also energetic and emotional in nature.
While Homeopathy traditionally focuses more on stimulating the body’s physical healing responses through energetic remedies, Essence Therapy primarily works on the emotional, subconscious, and energetic layers of an individual. It is based on the understanding that unresolved emotions, stress, trauma, thought patterns, and life experiences can influence overall well being, and may eventually manifest physically if left unaddressed.
Essences are created by capturing the vibrational frequency or energetic imprint of a flower, crystal, or natural substance in water through unique and specialised preparation methods. Unlike herbal medicine or nutritional supplements, they do not work chemically within the body. Instead, they gently interact with the body’s energetic field, supporting emotional releases to help balance, relieve, and shift negative emotions or mental patterns for personal transformation. Practitioners typically select or blend essences based on a person’s unique and customised needs, and they are usually taken orally in small doses morning and evening.
Different essences are traditionally associated with different emotional states and themes. Some may support issues related to anxiety, stress, fear, terror, grief, overwhelm, confidence, boundaries, communication, trauma, and self-worth, as well as life transitions, for example: changing careers, moving counties, a relationship ending or beginning, new phases, grounding, spiritual growth or upheaval. Practitioners carefully select blends based on an individual’s emotional patterns, personality, life experiences, and areas requiring support. As you work with essence therapy, your practitioner makes changes to your prescriptions as you change, almost like layers of an onion pulling back to reveal new aspects of an individual to dissolve the emotional blockage (known or unknown by the individual) for a beneficial outcome. This is similar to how acupuncture unblocks a meridian line in the body to allow a stronger energy flow toward an organ for emotional, mental and physical improvements and outcomes.
Essence Therapy takes a deeply holistic approach, viewing symptoms not simply as problems to suppress, but as messages from the body’s subconscious that something deeper may need attention, healing, or rebalancing. Whilst essence therapy should not replace either conventional or alternative medicine, we have experienced and witnessed significant positive outcomes when clients truly embrace treating both the physical and emotional symptoms or root causes on their health and wellness journeys.
Essence Therapy can work in conjunction with pharmaceutical medication, herbal medicine, and nutritional/natural supplements as there are no contraindications. It is safe for all humans, including children, teens, newborns, those who are pre/post-natal or perimenopausal, as well as males going through significant life changes.
What is Herbal Medicine?
Herbal Medicine is the use of plants to treat and cure disease in the body.
Archaeological studies have found that Herbal Medicine dates back at least 60,000 years with written documented use of herbal medicine going back 5,000 years. Nearly every modality of medicine has links to herbal medicine in some way and nearly 50% of all pharmaceutical drugs used in modern western medicine are derived from compounds first identified in plants.
The World Health Organization estimates that herbal medicine provides primary health care for 3.5 to 4 billion people worldwide. Modalities that use plants for medicine include, but are not limited to Western Herbal Medicine, Chinese Herbal Medicine, Ayurvedic Medicine, Greek Humoral Medicine, Eclectic Medicine, Modern Western Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, Tibetan Medicine, North American Native Medicine, Australian Indigenous Medicine, Mongolian Shamanism, Amazonian Shamanism and West African Tribal Medicine.
Different plant parts are used based on their energetics and chemical constituents, these include roots, stems, bark, leaves, flowers, seeds, resins, sap and tubers. Often you will find plant medicine used as a tea, powder, tincture, fluid extract, jam, topical compress, flower essence, aromatherapy, hydrosol, homeopathic and other various formulations.
Herbalists focus on using plants as their primary modality to treat and cure disease, and may discuss nutritional and lifestyle medicine prescriptions as part of their treatment plans.
